Expanding Recreation

Great Green Spaces

Sioux Falls saw historic investments in community gathering places in the past year, improving on the area's opportunities for recreation.

Sioux Falls saw historic investments in green spaces in the past year. Projects included:

  • Upgraded pool amenities at the new recreation center at Frank Olson Park, funded in part by Joe and Jennifer Kirby.
  • An extension to the city's bike path, from Lien Park to Bahnson Avenue, by the Gene Ashby Family and Jeff and Tammie Broin.
  • Shade structures at Cherapa Place, funded through a fiscal sponsorship at the Community Foundation, with lead gifts by Pendar Properties and MarketBeat.
  • McKennan Park pool and bathhouse, funded in part by Pierce and Barbara McDowell.
  • Walking paths at Jacobson Plaza, funded by Garry and Dianne Jacobson and Rob and Joette Everist.
  • Quarry at the Falls, funded through a grant from the Bezos Earth Fund Greening America's Cities Initiative.
  • Playspace at Lincoln Commons, funded in part by Paul and Mary Ellen Connelly.

Generosity plays a big part in shaping how Sioux Falls residents enjoy the outdoors, and 2026 brought more options to celebrate our beautiful parks.
