Donations to One Sioux Falls Fund Top $3.1 Million

Thanks to a $1 million gift from philanthropist and businessman T. Denny Sanford, the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation today announced that gifts and pledges to the One Sioux Falls Fund now total $3.1 million.

An emergency fund established in collaboration with the Foundation, the City of Sioux Falls and local businesses, the One Sioux Falls Fund is designed to help those in the Sioux Falls MSA avoid eviction if they are unable to work due to COVID-19.

So far, the One Sioux Falls Fund has received $2.1 million in private donations and pledges from local businesses and individuals, including Sanford’s gift. Sanford's $1 million gift will match a proposed $1 million total contribution from the City of Sioux Falls.

Notifications were sent to the first round of One Sioux Falls Fund recipients last week. As of April 1, the One Sioux Falls Fund has dispersed $440,466, helping 780 families avoid housing evictions due to COVID-19 economic impacts. See words of gratitude from One Sioux Falls Fund recipients.

To date, more than 1,700 One Sioux Falls Fund applications have been received. More applications are under review this week.

"The generosity of our community continues to amaze and inspire us," said Andy Patterson, president of the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation. "We are beyond grateful to all those who've given to the One Sioux Falls Fund. These gifts are making a difference in the lives of individuals and families across our community who have been impacted by COVID-19. From all of us at the Foundation, thank you for your willingness to help our neighbors in need during this difficult time."

Patterson also emphasized the continued need for philanthropy in our community.

"As the impact of this outbreak continues to emerge, we know the number of individuals and organizations who need help will continue to grow. The role of philanthropy in our area has never been more important. If you are able, please continue supporting the charities and causes you hold dear, especially during this challenging time.”
