SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota – From arts and literature to technology to healthy families, the latest round of Community Fund grants supports a variety of causes in the Sioux Falls area.

The Community Foundation awarded more than $170,000 in grants in its latest round of funding. The grants will help more homebound seniors receive meals, connect families with health resources, support crisis advocacy and therapy services and give foster families an affordable transportation option.

“We have a great variety of grants this round, and that’s a testament to all the work being done in Sioux Falls,” said Patrick Gale, vice president of community investment. “We’re happy to support these causes and to continue our mission of improving the quality of life for people in Sioux Falls.”

Grants were awarded to the following organizations in this round:

• Active Generations to support the full integration of the technology-driven Meals on Wheels platform, reducing paperwork, improving operational accuracy and increasing time for client services.
• Immunize South Dakota to support the first Community Baby Shower event, which will create a welcoming, low-barrier opportunity for expecting parents and families with infants to connect with local resources and providers.
• SHIFT Garage to support a new program called Foster Drive, which will provide rental vans to foster care families at significantly reduced costs and flexible terms.
• Solace to support crisis advocacy services and crisis therapy for victims on a continued journey to healing.
• South Dakota Humanities Council to support the annual Festival of Books event, which celebrates literature in South Dakota by connecting regional and national writers with our state’s readers.
• South Dakota Urban Indian Health to support the Native American Needs Assessment, a project that will help better understand the experiences, strengths, goals and needs of the Native people living in Sioux Falls.
• The Washington Pavilion to support the continued operations of Alcove, a venue that provides artists with affordable, flexible space to create, teach and sell their work without many traditional barriers.

The Community Fund Endowment and other unrestricted funds are part of the competitive grantmaking program.  The next cycle for Community Fund grants closes on Oct. 1. For information on the Community Fund, visit www.sfacf.org.
