Giving ideas focused on the great outdoors
It’s already the middle of summer – a season that seems to go by too quickly every year.
For your clients who are wondering how to support recreation and quality of life in Sioux Falls, we have a few opportunities.
As always, The Giving Depot, an online bulletin board of local needs, on the Community Foundation website, is a great resource to guide your clients. Here are just a few organizations making life better in Sioux Falls:
Sertoma Park playground: The playground at Sertoma Park has entertained kids for many years. Now, the Sertoma Club is raising funds to replace the aging playground equipment with modern, all-abilities equipment so no child is left out of the fun.
Falls Area Singletrack: If your clients like hiking or mountain biking, Great Bear is the perfect place for them. Falls Area Singletrack continues to build trails at the park, expanding opportunities for recreation. The multiyear project seeks to add trails at the park for users of all ages and abilities.
Sioux Falls Zoo: The Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium is in the midst of a transformative campaign to create a world-class aquarium, penguin habitat, butterfly rainforest and education center. The campaign is less than $2 million away from reaching its Phase One goal of $56 million.
Neighborhood Soccer: On Saturday mornings in eight neighborhoods across the city, more than 800 children and their families gather to play soccer, create friendships and build community. Mornings culminate with a shared meal. It’s all made possible by volunteers and donations.
Leif Erickson Day Camp: For school children, summers aren’t complete without a week at Leif Erickson Day Camp. The camp includes archery, nature exploration, ropes challenges, water games, and arts & crafts. Scholarship support is needed to make sure this Sioux Falls tradition is available for all families.
Levitt at the Falls: Summer evenings in downtown Sioux Falls are alive with the sounds of music at Levitt at the Falls. Thousands of people attend more than 50 free concerts that feature a variety of genres.
