Local giving: Our community nonprofits need us

We recently ended our fiscal year at the Community Foundation, and that’s always a time for me to reflect on the generosity of Sioux Falls.
Every year, I continue to be amazed by how many people care so deeply about this community – and they put that passion into action by donating to causes they care about. Sometimes, that’s to established nonprofits, where a donor might be a regular supporter. Other times, a smaller or emerging nonprofit benefits from landing on a donor’s radar.
You never know what might trigger someone to give to one organization or another – perhaps it’s a longstanding passion for music or art. Or maybe it’s a brush with a service and a lightbulb going off: This group could use a little help.
Whatever it is, it’s always inspiring to see how philanthropy continues to support important community organizations and services in Sioux Falls.
We’re fortunate here at the Community Foundation to have strong connections to our local nonprofits. That means we’re able to celebrate their successes and support them in times of need.
Right now, people are asking us: How can we help local nonprofits in challenging times?
I tell them, “Now is the time.”
We know people want to give back locally – that’s why they choose the Community Foundation, for our deep roots and local expertise. You might also feel the same sense of urgency: How can you help in this place you call home?
The answer is to give now, give more and give locally.
Our community needs us. Whatever your passion is – from causes that support youths to parks to social services – local charitable giving can be particularly meaningful right now. If you or someone you know is looking for an opportunity to make a difference, we can help guide you to local groups doing important work in Sioux Falls.
And, of course, The Giving Depot is a one-stop shop for our community's most pressing needs and a great place to learn about the variety of nonprofits in our area.
It takes all of us to make a difference - and to continue the tradition of generosity that has truly defined this community.
