In partnership with donors, the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation provides philanthropic leadership that assures the quality of life in our area for good, forever. Throughout each year, we are honored to accept proposals for special grant opportunities.

SPECIAL GRANT OPPORTUNITIES

Womans alliance square

Woman's Alliance Grants

This annual grant award program is designed to help address issues that impact women and/or girls in the Sioux Falls area. 

Activities that address the needs of socially or economically disadvantaged women and/or girls may also be eligible for the $5,000 Alene Delbridge Award.

Grants for up to $5,000 will be awarded to successful proposals.

  • Alliance grants and a $5,000 Alene Delbridge Award are made to worthy program activities sponsored by organizations. Awards are not made to individuals.
  • Organizations may submit only one proposal for consideration.
  • To be funded, all proposals must address the needs of women and/or girls in the Sioux Falls area. Preference will be given to programs that address unmet or under-served needs, those that are difficult to start or to sustain through traditional sources, or those that are innovative or unique.
  • The Alene Delbridge Award is limited to programs that serve economically or socially disadvantaged women and/or girls.

Animal welfare square

Animal Welfare and Appreciation Fund

Proposals are being sought through the Effie C. Skaarud Animal Welfare and Appreciation Fund and the Wanda Covington Endowment that promote animal welfare, enhance habitat, help animals assist mankind and enhance public understanding of the animal kingdom.

Grants for up to $5,000 will be awarded to successful proposals. The selection panel will consider proposals for:

  • New or existing programs
  • Total activity costs or some portion thereof
  • Programs that serve the greater Sioux Falls area
  • Programs that focus on animal welfare, health and safety, including the prevention of cruelty

Proposals that aim to enhance the habitat and living conditions of cats, dogs, other household pets and animals of all kinds are eligible for consideration. Programs that utilize animals for the benefit of man as companions or protectors will also be considered.

Excellence in ed square

Excellence in Education Initiative

Excellence in Education Initiative grants support teachers who have innovative ideas for classroom projects.

Since the program began, hundreds of programs and activities designed by teachers throughout the Sioux Falls area have received grant funding, enriching educational experiences for students.

Grants for up to $1,500 will be awarded to successful proposals. The selection panel will consider proposals for:

  • Projects or activities that teach concepts in an innovative and creative way
  • New curriculum or enhancements to existing curriculum
  • Projects or activities that are implemented school-wide or in one classroom
  • Projects or activities that will be completed by the end of the school year
  • Grants are available to educators by 501(c)(3) and government entities

Lennox Area CF 1

Lennox Area Community Fund

The Lennox Area Community Fund is a charitable endowment established to enhance the vibrancy of our communities and improve the qualify of life for those who call these special places home. Gifts to the fund grow over time thanks to the benefit of a pooled investment that generates long-term asset growth.

A board of local directors oversees the fund and works hand-in-hand with community members and civic leaders to understand needs and explore opportunities throughout the area. Each year, the board awards grants in support of local nonprofits and community-based projects and ideas.

Brandon CF

Brandon Community Foundation

The Brandon Community Foundation was created by and for local citizens to improve the quality of life right here in our community. Gifts to this endowment fund, an affiliate of the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation, grow over time thanks to the benefit of a pooled investment that generates long-term asset growth.

Through the power of endowment, each and every year we are able to award important grants to Brandon-area nonprofits. To date, more than $315,000 has been granted to nonprofits and causes throughout the Brandon area, touching the lives of people right here at home.

  • Projects must directly benefit the people of Brandon, SD.
  • Proposals must be for an enhancement or special project that meets a community need. Ongoing, operating and budget deficit requests will not be considered.
  • Program or project must be completed within 12-18 months.
  • Typical grants range from $500 - $10,000.

Jim & Caroline Deinema Canton Community Foundation

Founded in 1997, the Jim and Caroline Deinema Canton Community Foundation was created to improve the quality of life right here in our community. Gifts to the Foundation grow over time thanks to the benefit of a pooled investment that generates long-term asset growth.

Through the power of endowment, more than $100,000 has been granted to nonprofits and causes throughout the Canton area since our founding, touching the lives of people right here at home.
