Amy Erickson Scholarship This scholarship is open to third or fourth-year, full-time medical students who attend an accredited school and are studying complementary and alternative therapies. This application requires an essay describing the applicant's interest in integrative medicine, which combines traditional and alternative medical practices. Winners who are fourth-year students will receive the award to assist with their career plans. Award: $1,500; Deadline: May 1
Ashley Elizabeth Evans Medical School Scholarship To be eligible for this award, applicants must be graduates of a Sioux Falls area high school or home school program; be admitted to or enrolled in their first year of medical school at an accredited institution in the United States; demonstrate financial need; have participated in school and community activities throughout high school and college; and have demonstrated academic excellence during college by maintaining a “B” or better average. Preference will generally be given to applicants entering their first year of medical school. Award: $2,500; Deadline: August 15
Hovik Family Luther Seminary Scholarship This scholarship was established by Cliff and Helmer Hovik for a Luther Seminary student, preferably from Lincoln County, in the last year of a Master's of Divinity program. Interested students should visit the financial aid office at Luther Seminary for criteria and application information.
Howalt-McDowell SDAHO Scholarship To be eligible for this award, students must be enrolled full-time at the University of South Dakota and have completed at least two semesters of academic study leading to an advanced degree in healthcare administration. Interested students should contact the Director of Administration at the University of South Dakota Foundation.
James B. and Vera A. Sadler Graduate Scholarship Applicants must have graduated from or currently teach at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, SD, and be pursuing a graduate degree in Education, English, or Language Arts at an accredited college or university. Applicants must have a minimum of two years teaching experience in English or Language Arts. Award: $150 per credit hour; Deadline: April 1
Nelle McDonald Fund The Nelle McDonald Award is given annually to the recipient of the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation Scholarship at the Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota.
North Central Heart Endowment This scholarship benefits students pursuing a medical degree through the Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota. They must be classified as third or fourth-year students in the program, demonstrate the potential to succeed in medicine, and demonstrate financial need. The selection panel gives preference to applicants who plan to practice in the region following graduation. Award: $2,000; Deadline: April 30
Robert and Dr. Judy Nissen Scholarship To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be 24 years of age or older and pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree at South Dakota Public Universities and Research Center with a minimum class load of six credit hours per term. A minimum 3.0 GPA and financial need are also criteria for this award. Award: $500; Deadline: April 15
Seventh District Medical Society Scholarship This award is open to students who have successfully completed two years of medical school and are classified as juniors at Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, and motivation to pursue goals. They must also be active participants in school and community affairs. Preference will be given to applicants who live within the boundaries of the Seventh District Medical Society or who have strong ties to the geographic area which the Medical Society serves. The boundaries are defined as all of Minnehaha and Lincoln counties; southern Moody County from Highway 34 south; and eastern McCook County from Highway 81 east. Award: $1,250; Deadline: July 31
