This scholarship provides an award for the first year of higher education at an accredited college, university, vocational, or technical school for students from the Sioux Falls area who have a financial need, and who are not normally eligible for such awards because they developed a motivation late in life or after leaving high school. Applicants who did not receive a traditional high school diploma, who entered the work force after graduation, or who were not the top students in previous academic work but who demonstrate personal growth and motivation through an improving academic record, strong work ethic, or some other factor will be given priority for this scholarship. This scholarship is open to graduating seniors of Dell Rapids Public High School who plan to attend an accredited college, university, or vocational or technical school. Applicants must also be ranked in the lower 90 percent of their graduating class and demonstrate financial need. The Junior League of Sioux Falls is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of other women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Applicants for this scholarship must be female; reside in Minnehaha or Lincoln Counties; be a graduating senior from an accredited high school or a home school program; and plan to attend an accredited college, university, community college, vocational school, or technical school (excluding institutions whose academic programs are conducted primarily online or via correspondence). Organizers have defined the Trent community as the area bounded on the south by the Moody County line, on the north by SD Highway 34, on the east by the South Dakota state line, and on the west by the Colman Road, also known as 470th Avenue. Eligible applicants must be of good moral character and plan to attend an accredited, post-secondary educational institution.
