Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation specializes in attracting, managing, and distributing income from charitable endowments. These funds produce a reliable and continuous source of income for nonprofits and worthy educational, cultural, and scientific programs in the Sioux Falls area.
Endowments are perpetual trusts. Donations to SFACF funds are placed in a long-term investment pool. Each year, a portion of the fund balance is paid to charitable activities. The rest of the earnings are reinvested, thus the fund is never depleted.
Freda Lemke left a legacy gift to SFACF in 1989 that became the Freda B. Lemke Unrestricted Endowment. From an original bequest of $82,000, by the end of 2010, her endowment had made over $81,000 in grants and was worth $95,000.
